I had another post planned, but then I saw it was International Non-Binary People’s Day and I let myself get distracted.
If you’ve made it this far into my site (or have come from my Twitter feed) and don’t know everything I write is queerer than queer, this is your final wake up call. I’m a proudly genderqueer pansexual in a lesbian appearing relationship. Most of my friends are also very queer, so the majority of my characters are very, very, very queer.
My hopefully-debut includes asexual, lesbian and trans representation, with hints at other sexualities and gender presentations sprinkled throughout. I’m writing a novella in the same universe that has a non-binary main character. I have vague plans for other queers and other stories (and other mediums because storytelling is closely tied to the way it’s consumed and the differences fascinate me).
Basically, it’s best to assume my characters are queer unless otherwise stated. And if anyone has made it this far and is questioning my lack of ‘diversity’ without allocishet characters, I will say this: queers travel in packs. We find each other because we know that’s where we’re safest. We form found families that are tied with bounds stronger than any blood. I’m just celebrating the love and acceptance I’ve found while fighting to ensure others can feel the same way.
